CEO / Chairman
Thomas
L DiStefano III is Chairman and CEO of Perfect Web
Technologies, Inc. an Internet marketing and technology
firm that he founded in 1997 in Boca Raton, Florida.
A serial entrepreneur Mr. DiStefano's interest and
fascination with the digital world grew out of his
experience as a merchant banker and stock broker
and his need to understand, grasp and utilize the
Internet to grow his business.
Born
and raised in East Hampton, Connecticut, Tom, the
eldest of 8 children, always knew he wanted to own
and operate his own business. From mowing lawns,
painting houses and short order cooking as a teenager,
he taught himself how to do things and started up
businesses by leveraging his skills and energy to
engage others; a sustaining theme throughout his
life.
A Who's Who and Parade All-American point
guard at East Hampton High School and later in college,
Tommy D, as he was known then, graduated from Eastern
Connecticut State University after discovering and
immersing himself in economics. Later in his career
he earned Series 7 and Series 63 certifications.
In
1980, after a life altering cross-country "Vision
Quest", he worked as a deep-sea fisherman in Southern
California. By 1982, he returned to Connecticut with
a wife and son and leveraged his love of Italian
cooking to open a chain of extremely successful and
popular pizza restaurants in college towns called
Gina Marie's, which he sold in 1986.
Moving to Florida,
he worked as chef in several restaurants but he yearned
to use the profits to expand his knowledge of business
and markets. He opened Gina Marie's Frozen Pizza
using recipes and techniques he previously invented.
They were sold throughout Florida by Xtra Superfoods.
In
1990, he became a stockbroker with Chatfield Dean.
By January 1993, Tom opened his own firm called TLD3
Investment Group where he experimented with early
digital communications to grow his banking and brokerage
business. Frustrated by technology vendors, he taught
himself HTML and Java Script in order to launch www.theuptick.com,
an e-mail marketing system designed to introduce
stock offerings.
In the course of developing
this pioneering website and e-mail application, Tom
began to imagine the possibilities for sophisticated,
interactive digital communications and marketing. Over
the next several years he invented and patented seminal
business processes that are cornerstone elements
of Internet marketing, as we know it. In parallel
he evolved his technology business following the
first Web boom by experimenting with or developing
an array of new technologies. Tom founded Sticky
Web, Inc., the predecessor to Perfect Web Technologies,
Inc., in 1997.
Combining
the skills and resources of the Company's divisions
with his patents and his operational experience from
Sticky Web and The Uptick, Tom transformed the company
into its current incarnation - Perfect Web Technologies
- and invented a new ASP protocol to simplify and
accelerate the use of e-mail marketing for a broad
range of mid-size and small businesses.
